Reading Group: Afterall Journal and The Political Animal

22 jul 2019
Symposium
Arts Catalyst, London.

To mark the publication of issue 48 of Afterall journal, we are collaborating with The Political Animal for a collective reading of Filipa Ramos’s text ‘Other Faces: Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook’s Interspecies Engagements’ alongside a screening of film by Rasjarmrearnsook and a text focusing on the symbolic relationship between dogs and humans in contemporary Thailand.

The reading group will take place at Arts Catalyst within the context of ‘Towards the Planetary Commons: Reimagining Infrastructures for Autonomy’, an exhibition which explores the neoliberal policies imposed on communities of humans and non-humans to reinforce strategies of land usage which threaten biodiversity.

The Political Animal reading group was founded by Olga Koroleva in February 2016 and incorporates a monthly reading session and discussion, international exchange and exhibition opportunities supporting cross-disciplinary examination of inter-species relationships. Two satellite groups are based in Dublin and Edinburgh led by Jessica Conway and Tom Jeffreys respectively. Collaborative readings have been held with The Showroom, Whitstable Biennale, Chisenhale Studios, Art Licks Weekend and Guest Projects.
